Switch Sales Top 100 Million - Worldwide Hardware Estimates for Dec 12-18 - Sales

The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console with 1,314,674 units sold for the week ending December 18, according to VGChartz estimates. The Switch has now sold an estimated 100.72 million units lifetime.
The Nintendo Switch becomes the seventh video game platform to cross 100 million units sold. The other platforms are the PS2, DS, Game Boy, PS4, PS1, and Wii.
The PlayStation 5 sold an estimated 541,390 units to bring its lifetime sales to 16.68 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 459,416 units to bring their lifetime sales to 11.00 million units.
PS5 sales compared to the same week for the PS4 in 2014 are down by nearly 174,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same week for the Xbox One are down by nearly 67,000 units. PS4 sold 715,000 units for the week ending December 20, 2014 and Xbox One sales were at 525,948 units.
The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 25,608 units, the Xbox One sold 12,062 units, and the Nintendo 3DS sold 303 units.
Nintendo Switch sales compared to the same week a year ago are down by 205,762 units (-13.5%), while the PlayStation 5 is up 167,729 (44.9%) and the Xbox Series X|S is up 140,998 units (44.3%).
The PlayStation 4 is down 150,477 (-85.5%), the Xbox One is down 95,130 units (-88.8%), and the 3DS is down 4,855 units (-94.4%).
Looking at sales week-on-week, Nintendo Switch sales are up by nearly 67,000 units, PlayStation 5 sales are up by over 133,000 units, while Xbox Series X|S sales are up by nearly 81,000 units.

2nd Fastest to reach 100 millions only behind the DS. It won't be long until Switch is on the podium of best selling consoles of all time. On which position it will end is only a matter of how long Nintendo is willing to keep it on the market.
Nintendo is about to have a monster 2022! You got exclusives like Triangle Strategy, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, Advance Wars 1&2: Reboot Camp, Bayonetta 3, Splatoon 3, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and HOPEFULLY.....Breath of the Wild 2. That's going to move a ton of hardware next year! On top of whatever surprise announcements happen at a Nintendo Direct or E3 like the rumored Metroid Prime Remake.
Only other thing Nintendo can do to really contend with the PS2 and DS, besides consistent software releases and price cuts on the base model Switch and maybe the Lite, is another hardware revision in 2023. Nintendo has been bringing out a new revision every other year up to this point. So holiday 2023, I can see Nintendo releasing their insanely rumored Switch Pro! If that happens, practically guaranteed Switch will be the best selling console ever. But Nintendo being Nintendo, I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be a Switch Lite OLED model lol
Breath of the Wild 2 will be released in 2022, no doubts about it.
I hope so, but I'm tempering my expectations. Keep in mind it still has a soft 2022 date. Probably it will though.
Yea i think they know they can keep pushing the Switch cause the branding is really strong and a Pro system with DLSS could do wonders to games even if it isn't that powerful. Switch brand is too profitable to quit the boat just yet and i doubt they would release a new system without having one or two price cut which the Switch don't even need right now. OLED is even selling out with a price increase... it's crazy.
If that doesn't convince people, then the 2nd argument is they will have such a storng line up in 2022-2023, the successor would have barely any big titles until year 2-3 if it was to release in 2023. I fully anticipate a Mario game holiday 2022 to release with the movie.
We already got an Upgrade in Power with Switch V2 but it was for better battery and colder system. After that we got the OLED, a safe bet, I don't believe Switch will need a better hardware like 3DS for the better 3D and faster Load/Download times, Nintendo can use the Switch V2 and unlock it's full potential but they don't want to get in trouble with the old software. That's just what i think, they are going to wait for Switch 2 for an Upgrade.
If you are excited to play SilkSong, you probably already have the platform to play it, i.e. you have already played HK.
Yes I'm excited for Silksong, and yes i've played HK (111%). It also comes to PC, and probably later to other consoles. But for now is a Switch console exclusive and no one can't deny the big impact and fanbase the first HK has achieved

The rumoured pro switch is launched already. It’s the oled model. In 2023 they might as well launch the switch 2. With backwards compatibility.

That's what I thought initially as well, till Nintendo came out and said this year that the Switch is only half way through its lifecycle, so I'm figuring there will be one more hardware revision before a Switch 2 happens.
The Nintendo Switch is my favorite console of all times and I believe that its better than the Super Nintendo because it's Library consists of more jrpgs and the jrpgs on the Switch are of higher quality than the Super Nintendo

Yeah. More than half the ps5 sales there. Never seen this before in previous generations.
I still think Xbox should've concentrated harder on the Japanese market, after Sony basically abandoned it.
I dont think Sony abandoned it, Japan was always more into portables and smaller consoles, the xbox series S is less than half the size of a ps5, also much cheaper.
Still, it would take way more than that for xbox to break the Japan market, playstation would outsell there no matter what, just for the brand name alone. Same in Europe.
Some great jRPG exclusives would do it this time around. Still Xbox series S doesn't have a disc drive so that's a tough sell there.
I'm just happy that this time around all 3 console makers are doing well, this is nothing but good news, competition makes them work harder and pump more games, you only lose if you don't own all 3 platforms. I have PC, PS5 and switch so I'm covered for the next few years.
Makes me wonder if the xbox games were not on PC, the xbox sales would probably pass the ps5 this generation. I would definitely have bough one.

Seems like a nice WW recovery for the PS5 this week, and really impressive NA/LatAm numbers for Xbox given the circumstances
But the big story is Switch passing 100 million sold. That’s hallowed ground in the console business
Yes, Switch made it to 100 million, but I’m 85-95% certain it will fall off a cliff before hitting the 100 billion mark. I can provide data supported this theory if people are still in denial about the elusive and majestic cliff.
Shipment figure should be close to 105 million by year end 2021 if they are close to their target. 125m+ next Christmas.

Xbox sold worse before, and they still continue. It's just a strategically important market, that they can't give up on, given the popularity of Japanese games worldwide. And I'm sure it's basically the same for Sony, even if PS HQ was moved to California.

ps5 will end the year at 17 million units. I believe that next year the demand for ps5 will be even bigger with big releases like Horizon forbiden west, Gran Turismo 7 and God of War Ragnarok. ps5 may end 2022 with 35 million units of stock.
Back in late 2020 we had some alleged wafer production numbers leak out of TSMC that gave us a rough idea of how many chips each manufacturer was getting. To my knowledge this has not happened again.
All of which is to say we don’t really have an idea yet how many consoles Sony will be able to produce in 2022, and how much longer the chip shortage will continue. For Sony to reach 35 million PS5s lifetime, you are essentially asking Sony to increase their year over year production in 2022 by about 4 million or so consoles.
Can TSMC and the secondary parts suppliers support that kind of a production ramp? I think it’s too early to say
