Star Wars' Ewan McGregor says Obi-Wan Kenobi's Disney+ series will 'bridge the gap' for franchise

Star Wars' Ewan McGregor has said that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series for Disney+ will "bridge the gap" for the character and franchise.

The upcoming spin-off, which will start filming next spring, is set after the events of Revenge of the Sith, with the Jedi Master now living out his years on the desert planet Tatooine.

It's currently unclear what the specific focus of the series will be, or whether it will feature a young Luke Skywalker, but what's for certain is that we'll get to see McGregor doing his best Alec Guinness.

When asked on The One Show today (September 14) if he could reveal anything about the Obi-Wan series, the actor replied: "No, not really. We start shooting in spring of next year. I'm very excited about it.

"I think we shot the last one I did in 2003 (Revenge of the Sith), so it's been a while and I'm that much closer to Alec Guinness' age now."

He continued: "So that was always the fun part about playing Obi-Wan Kenobi, for me, was to try and study Alec Guinness and think about maybe how he would have behaved in these scenes as a younger man.

"So now I'll be a bit closer and it'll be nice to sort of bridge that gap. It's really exciting."

Speaking of his excitement to work on a Star Wars series, as opposed to another film, he added: "The fact that we're doing a series, as opposed to a movie, I think is sort of even more now and even more exciting."

The Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series will premiere on Disney+.
