Applies to:  Nintendo Switch Family, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch - OLED Model

In this article, you’ll learn how to connect, disconnect, and remove saved Bluetooth audio devices on your Nintendo Switch system.

Note
  • Only one Bluetooth audio device can be paired at a time, but up to 10 devices can be saved on a Nintendo Switch system.
  • Bluetooth microphones cannot be used.
  • You may experience audio latency depending on your Bluetooth device.
  • Be mindful that volume changes may occur when using the same Bluetooth audio device across multiple devices including Nintendo Switch.

Complete these steps

Make sure your Nintendo Switch system has been updated to the latest system version.

  1. What would you like to do?
    1. Make sure that no more than two wireless controllers are currently connected to your Nintendo Switch system. If a controller needs to be disconnected, hold the SYNC Button on the controller for at least one second.
      • A pair of Joy-Con counts as two wireless controllers.
    2. Turn on your Bluetooth audio device and set it to a searchable state or pairing mode.
      • Follow the instructions for your specific Bluetooth audio device on how to enable it to be paired.
    3. From the Nintendo Switch HOME menu, open System Settings.
    4. Scroll down to Bluetooth Audio, then select Pair to search for any available Bluetooth audio devices in range.
      • Searching for pairable devices can take several seconds.
      • If 10 devices have already been paired and saved to the system, you will need to remove at least one saved device before you can pair a new one.
    5. Select your Bluetooth audio device’s name when it is found.
    6. Once connected, any audio that is played will be output through your Bluetooth device. Be sure to adjust the system volume to a comfortable level.
    1. Turn on your Bluetooth audio device and ensure it is not already paired to another device.
      • Your audio device may automatically reconnect to your Nintendo Switch system when it is turned on and in range. In this case, no further steps are needed; audio will be output through your Bluetooth device.
    2. From the Nintendo Switch HOME menu, open System Settings.
    3. Scroll down to Bluetooth Audio, then select your device’s name from the list of saved devices.
    4. Select Connect Device. Once connected, any audio that is played will be output through your Bluetooth device. Be sure to adjust the system volume to a comfortable level.

While a Bluetooth audio device is paired, you can disconnect it instantly by turning off the device. You can also manually disconnect it through your Nintendo Switch System Settings using the steps below.

    1. From the Nintendo Switch HOME menu, open System Settings.
    2. Scroll down to Bluetooth Audio, then select your device’s name from the list of saved devices.
    3. Select Disconnect Device. Once disconnected, any audio that is played will be output through the system speakers or TV audio, if playing in TV mode.
    1. From the Nintendo Switch HOME menu, open System Settings.
    2. Scroll down to Bluetooth Audio, then select your device’s name from the list of saved devices.
    3. Select Remove Device. Once removed, the device’s name will no longer appear in the list of known Bluetooth devices.
      • To use the Bluetooth device again, pair it as a new device.
