Genshin Impact from miHoYo generated approximately $393 million during the first two months following its official launch on September 28, Sensor Tower Store Intelligence estimates show.

The open-world RPG made a quick start to life, accumulating $60 million in just its first week after release. By the end of its first month, it had grossed $245 million. In the month following, the blockbuster title continued to find success, picking up close to $148 million. During its first two months, Genshin Impact was the No. 2 revenue-generating mobile game worldwide, ranking behind Honor of Kings from Tencent at No. 1 and above PUBG Mobile from Tencent at No. 3. On average, Genshin Impact has earned more than $6 million a day.

Top Grossing Mobile Games Worldwide Between September 28 and November 28, 2020

As in its first month, China was the largest market for player spending during Genshin Impact’s first two months, generating over $120 million, or 30.5 percent of total revenue. Outside of China, the title has accumulated close to $273 million, accounting for 69.5 percent of all spending. Japan ranked No. 2 for player spending, picking up close to $98 million, or nearly 25 percent of revenue, while the United States rounded out the top three with approximately $74 million, or 18.8 percent. In each of its top four markets, which also includes South Korea, Genshin Impact ranked as the No. 5 top grossing mobile game by revenue in the time since its release.

Apple’s App Store accounted for the majority of player spending in the game, racking up more than $226 million, or 57.5 percent of revenue. Google Play, meanwhile, accounted for close to $167 million, or 42.5 percent of spending.

Global Success Story

While Genshin Impact revenue declines in its second month compared to its first, the title still ranked as the No. 3 grossing game globally, accumulating nearly $5 million a day on average. The title has already made its mark on 2020, ranking as the No. 29 top grossing mobile game globally so far this year. As we’ve previously noted, Genshin Impact’s success is unique in the industry: a brand new IP developed in China that has become an international hit. The challenge now will be for miHoYo to maintain this and become a top grossing title for years to come, a status the world’s other highest earning mobile games have achieved.
