Here's the upgraded BG3 owlbear mechs in action! The ear wiggle really makes a massive difference, and the whole thing is so much easier to control now.
We've been up seeing family on Tamborine Mountain for the past week, so we used the opportunity to do a test travel before applying the final feathers and finishing touches (which we're doing next) - we're pleased to report that, other than some loose screws, it did really well, and we can even squash this puppet down into a regular sized suitcase for easy transport. Would love to see that on the baggage scanner ...

The original implementation of all the parts in our Baldur's Gate owlbear cub were quite rushed. Chances are that if you saw us at PAX we were probably manually yanking the wires and shredding our fingers to blink him! 😅

This is much nicer to use now, I think overall ergonomics and implementation could be refine, but I'm quite happy with how it all works now!

Plus, new features! Lower lid safety stops have been refined so they don't break again, ear wiggle was added and controls for the eye pitch actually go to the handle now!

Owlbear cub upgrades! ☺️

Scrap has been tweaking a few things over the long weekend and we now have a bunch of extra movement - more fluid blinking, a cute little ear waggle and eye movement! Plus all the nylon cables have been replaced with steel, so it's all a lot more durable than the original 3 day build!

Now to, er, un-DUrge this little fellow and put the head back on, and hopefully we'll have all our Baldur's Gate 3 cosplay upgrades done before Dreamhack!

Getting to the actual tangible physical parts of T

Getting to the actual tangible physical parts of The Emperor. This feels like such a ridiculous cosplay project. One print down, five more to go, and that's just for the head - I'm also printing the mold jacket on our FDM machines, in between our actual work projects. This will be used to make matrix mold and the final will be cast in silicone.
Can't wait to shove my head inside this!

I honestly don't think I'll ever get sick of painting armor.
Laying down a base coat of stainless steel. Even though it looks lovely like this, it's just a base coat and will be drybrushed over and deeply, deeply weathered, but for now it's lovely and shiny!
This is a part of an Artorias build for a private client that we've been chipping away at long term, and it's shaping up so lovely we're tempted to make one for Scrap once we're done.

I've wanted to start posting some of the neat little tips and tricks we've discovered while working that never made it into any of our "making of" videos because they didn't quite fit, so let's start a bit of a Throwback Thursday!

When we made these Sulfurasesesesses- hammers we needed a convenient way to have the top spike come off so they could be mounted in the Molten Core stands.

Enter magnetic pogo pins. Absolutely fell in love with these little doodads! They're such a convenient alternative to a JST plug for when you want something snappy. The 3 pin units are an ideal match for 2812 lighting strips!

I'm spending my spare time on a bunch of major and

I'm spending my spare time on a bunch of major and minor upgrades to my Halsin armor at the moment while Scrap chips away at his massive Emperor project.
It's nice to come back to a quick project and change all the things you weren't totally happy with; I'm a big advocate of refining a costume until you're happy with it rather than always moving to a new project.
This costume in its current state only took 9 days to put together once I had the patterns blocked out. I was so happy to have a whole two weeks of time to myself back in September between finishing our Starfield job for Bethesda and PAX that I barely slept as I worked on this costume and our owlbear cub, and I'm honestly really proud of how this turned out for such a quick build.
There's a lot I'd like to change before I'll be truly happy with it though (see the little snippet of my list on the last page). I'm making proper tabi, replacing the acrylic animal motifs with real copper, and replacing a lot of the pleather wrapped EVA foam with proper tooled leather, as well as making the Sussur bark sickle, because I've never made a sickle and as someone who mains a druid in every game ever that's just not right. Anyhow, I still can't believe I never posted any of these photos outside of our stories at the time.
Also if you love this set (and honestly who wouldn't, all the BG3 endgame sets are ridiculous and I love them) please go follow @nerdsgonemildcosplay who is currently making the version of this their Tav wears, and it's already looking utterly perfect, as always.
