Northgard 9+

Love this game. However.

First off wanted to say I love this game. It’s strategies, battle/building mechanics combined with a manageable amount of day-to-day wood/food/coin. It is a very well balanced, well thought out and executed game.

However for me, it is a bit quick. It might be that I’m a bit slow, however it all moves and happens a bit too quickly for my liking. I like to make sure I have the right building in the right areas with the correct upgrades. It would be very helpful if the user could slow down the game play or even pause to get affairs in order.

Other than that, love the game and would definitely recommend to anyone who’s into strategy/battle games.

Fun till it crashes

I really enjoy this strategy game which has an emphasis on survival. 1. Sadly the battle mechanics are very basic and though there are different units they basically just all end up in a melee. 2. Worst though is the amount it crashes, mostly just when you go to make a new save though sometimes opening the menu will do it. 3.The campaign level “trade wars” is either fundamentally bugged on my copy or doesn’t explain how to win. I’ve done what people online say and no matter how much trade I do my score stays at 0. This means I can’t progress any further than level 4 on campaign and it has no way to skip it. Combined with the crashing I can’t be bothered to keep trying to work out what’s wrong with the “trade wars” level. It keeps crashing and I keep having to replay progress and It’s just not fun anymore. I haven’t tried the skirmish mode yet, due to having lost the will from the crashes. I’ll give it another go if there is an update which fixes the amount it crashes and if there is a way to continue the campaign past “trade wars”.

Good, but on the verge of unplayable

I’ve managed to make it to the end of the story mode. It’s taken perhaps 3 times as long as it should, because the game crashes incessantly, from anywhere between every 2 to 15 minutes of gameplay. There are auto saves (and manual), which sometimes catch it at the right time, but invariably you end up finding that buildings you constructed are no longer there, because you’ve lost 5-10 minutes of play. To the game’s credit, I’ve put up with this, because it’s a nice example of the genre, and I liked the development, characters and story, even though in one or two chapters, it’s not entirely clear what you’re supposed to do.

You can go back and do extra tasks after completion, and play stand-alone games, but I think the regularity of the crashing is a straw too heavy for this camel’s back to bother with that. If that’s resolved in an update, I’ll probably come back and play intermittently.
